“Realize” by Nolan Taylor, ft. The Nolan Taylor Band
Hi Folks! Presented by Mediocre Video Productions (a fictitious company), here is a last-minute submission to NPR’s 2019 Tiny Desk Competition. It’s an original song written by Nolan Taylor, an up-and-coming singer/songwriter from Cincinnati, OH. Nolan and I were made aware of the competition within two days of its deadline, but had fun recording this with my gnarly iPhone and a tripod (#domorewithless). Enjoy!

'The Fox' Mandolin Break by Nickel Creek- Slow Version
Переглядів 2,3 тис.8 років тому
My mandolin is in tune- it just has not been set up yet and unfortunately I'm having an intonation issue with my A strings. Anyways, I just learned this today and wanted to post it. I cannot play it fast yet but I think I have it down almost note for note. I figured I'd upload my slow version as to help others who are trying to learn it.

Here's a tutorial of my interpretation of the mandolin solo in "Old Home Place" by J.D. Crowe and the New South. Hopefully you can pick a few things up and learn the basic idea of how the solo is played. I play this in Bb- the key in which it is played on the album.

Sierra Hull's "Don' Pick Me Up" Intro on Banjo

Here's my attempt at the intro of Sierra Hull's "Don' Pick Me Up" on my banjer. It is merely my interpretation and I do not believe it is 100% correct. Nonetheless, I believe it sounds pretty close.

You saved me n my brother Marv. He headed out to "Alaska" I'm surely to follow. I love you brother. Keep on keeping on thru darkness on "68" with love from the Kansas plains. Pain is drifting and shifting though broken bones and ties. Broken wings that fail me in flight. With love and osin away Ill drive. ❤
Damn, that voice!! Love it. Thank you!
My newest favorite singer and guitarist, Nolan Taylor and I just have to say- even though I have heard him perform this song before, I LOVE the addition of the talented mandolin player. Nolan Taylor has become one of my most favorite songwriters, second only to John Prine.
Killer song
Check out my cover, I did the break note for note
Is there extra biblical evidence for Jesus? My college textbook, The New Testament, by Stephen L. Harris says, “With one exception, no Jewish writer [outside the bible] of the first or early second century alludes to either Jesus or the movement named for him” (282). The only exception is Josephus. I find it Reasonable to Doubt Josephus wrote all of the famous passage because Christian Apologists argue that Josephus did not write the fraudulent parts of the passage, or what they call “Christian Interpolations.” As a matter of fact, there is not one credible Jewish reference that demonstrates that the Jews outside the bible, in the 1st century were even aware of the idea of a guy named Jesus that has anything to do with the New Testament.
In the book, Osiris Death and Afterlife of a God, Bojana Mojsov says, “Theirs was the Savior Child of light, born at the winter solstice with the sun” (xii). Was Isis a Virgin? Mojsov says, “Isis came to be worshipped as the Primordial Virgin and their child as the Savior of the World” (xii). Was Osiris resurrected? Mojsov says, “Every year in the town of Abydos his death and resurrection after three days were celebrated in a publicly enacted passion play called the Mysteries of Osiris” (xii).
Awesome! Can you make a tutorial on how to play it??
I get the first part but can not grasp like the second half of this for some reason
Pretty 🙂
very nice!
rogerden Thank you!
Love it Nolan!
Sharon Hollingsworth Thank you!
Boys are burning it up!!
Lead singer on this has a really nice bluegrass voice! And the instrumentals are very good. Great job on this song
Where do you get you tab or sheet music for mandolin from? :) Sounds awesome :)
Nice! Who are the musicians?
Thanks, Steve.
That was awesome
thanks for teaching us nothing...-_- you just jammed this whole video lmao wtf
You're awesome. Thanks for this. "Ok, boys Old Home Place...how about Bb?" "Get a rope!"
that didn't take long, maybe he ate some white castle the day before. she drives about a quarter mile, stops to get out for air, just far enough that she can drive away in case he tries to run back towards the car. after 3 minutes, the remains of the fart in her car cushion are still potent. she drives back towards him.....................and.....................runs him over. farting white castle into anyone furniture cushions will get you in a heap of trouble. get up, leave the room (or house), after youre done pat the seat of your pants to break out vapor clusters before returning to a human environment.
THIS IS GENIUS OMG SO GLAD I FOUND THIS
very Good!
Very good job!
You don't suck at all, you say you're a new player? Well there is hope in the world for the rest of us. You're doing good. I'm still just getting chords down. My first week. Never played anything since the flute in school band in 5th grade. I love bluegrass so it keeps me going. Thanks for posting!
Well done!
robust! as an aside; are you into playing a part at web-based cooperations over at Bandhub! I usually play guitar ;) Both of us can collab at that site! It must be exciting!
Could you put the tabs of that up?
I don't have any, otherwise I would. Sorry!
Thanks! And I actually don't play left-handed. The video flipped. I'm a righty and play both, mandolin and banjer right-handed.
Hey, thanks a lot, David!
Thanks, Gretchen! What tutorials would you like to see?
Sweet dude! Good stuff
dude, you're awesome! keep it up! ...put up more tutorials too please!
Shit acting. Shit idea. just shift
@Paul Thanks! And I actually don't play left-handed. The video flipped. I'm a righty and play both right-handed.
Nice picking man, but how come you play banjo left handed and mando right handed. That's just wrong...
Why is it, that every zeitgeist debunking video, never uses the 220 page source guide or the footnotes from the Zeitgeist transcript? Please look up the documentation from the 220 page source guide and get the books listed in the footnotes of the transcript.
Did well bro
Thanks! I'll do that. I play that one with my band, and I'm always looking for new ways to play it. :)
No problem! Glad it helped! I just posted a new vid in which you might be interested. It's the "Old Home Place" mandolin solo. Check it out!
Glad I could help! Keep practicing! :D I just posted a new vid in which you might be interested. It's the "Old Home Place" mandolin solo. Check it out!
No problem! An octave mandolin is actually tuned an octave lower than the standard mandolin. Sierra Hull plays one. They seem really sweet! A bouzouki is a different instrument. I personally think mandolin has a much smoother tone and is certainly less stringy! I just posted a new vid in which you might be interested. It's the "Old Home Place" mandolin solo. Check it out!
Thanks for doing this! I'm trying to learn it on my octave mandolin, and this should help with that section a lot. By the way, I think I read somewhere that Thile played this on a Flatiron octave mandolin. A lot of times "bouzouki" and "octave mandolin" are used interchangably, but I think a true bouzouki has different tuning.
I love how you say "thats it" like its easy to learn :) And I agree with bouldermandlin, this is a very helpful video. Thanks for making it :)
Cool song... Love the beat.. I think that it would be a great theme song for Folgers coffee
Thanks so much, dude!
Sure thing.
Here's what it looks what I did: Intro/Good Good to go part D Bm G A Verses: B D G D A "Bc i just want for all of this to end" part: Bm A D Chorus G D Bm A G
Can i have the chords you do for this?
thanks i just started to learn this 10 minutes ago and you made it easy to understand!
